Company named to LATINA Style 50 Report for ninth consecutive year
LATINA Style magazine today named General Mills one of the 50 best places to work for Hispanic women in the U.S. As one of the LATINA Style 50 companies selected from a field of more than 800, General Mills was honored for providing outstanding career advancement opportunities to Hispanic women employees. The company has made the list for the past nine consecutive years.
“Latinas make up a valuable part of our workforce and we’re thrilled that LATINA Style recognizes our unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive workplace for employees,” said Ken Charles, vice president of diversity and inclusion at General Mills.
Programs such as General Mills’ Hispanic Network provide Latinas with a sense of community where they can identify resources, share experiences and network with other Hispanics throughout the company. Next month, the Hispanic Network will host the company’s seventh annual Hispanic Leadership Day, when Hispanic employees from around the world come to General Mills’ headquarters in Minneapolis to celebrate, discuss, and listen to each other and executive speakers.
Companies were evaluated based on issues that LATINA Style readers identified as most important to them in the workplace. Among the principal areas of evaluation are: number of Latina executives, mentoring programs, number of Latina board members, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, dependent/child care support, employee benefits, women’s issues, job retraining, affinity groups and Hispanic relations. Evaluations for the 2009 annual report were based on 2008 data.

An annual awards ceremony honoring the LATINA Style 50 companies will take place on Feb. 4, 2010, during LATINA Style’s Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
